Carl Hagon

Special Counsel

Carl is currently a Special Counsel at JHK Legal.  He holds a Bachelor of Laws and Bachelor of Arts from the University of New South Wales.

Carl began practising law in 2008.  He has worked at a variety of commercial law firms and in-house for a mid-tier construction company. Throughout his career Carl has advised clients on a broad range of commercial disputes.  Carl has acted for clients ranging from impecunious individuals, small to medium enterprises, private financiers and publically listed companies.

Carl acts on both sides of insolvency matters: advising directors of insolvent companies and bankrupts in their dealings with insolvency practitioners; and advising insolvency practitioners in respect of the variety of issues and disputes that they encounter.  Carl also advises developers and builders in respect of contract negotiations, payment claims and adjudications and disputes.

Carl’s recent notable work includes acting for:

  • developers and builders in negotiating head contracts, successfully obtaining temporary and permanent access to neighbouring lands and disputing payment claims;
  • individuals and companies by appearing (without Counsel) in numerous interlocutory applications including successful applications for security for costs, obtaining orders for the delivery of seized property from the Police, and the dismissal of proceedings for want of prosecution;
  • an insolvency practitioner in bringing a constitutional challenge to state legislation; and
  • a property developer in successfully defending a claim by a ‘silent partner’ for about $20,000,000.

Carl is a no nonsense practitioner.  He gives direct and concise advice aimed at achieving commercially pragmatic results for his clients.

Carl has practised in all Australian jurisdictions and currently holds a practicing certificate in New South Wales and is admitted in the High Court of Australia.

Outside of the law Carl enjoys watching and helping his two young sons discover the world around them.
